Epidemiologists in pharma

EpiRx- I am completing my PhD and unsure if I want to stay in academia, so trying to explore my options. Can anyone share potential career options for epidemiologists in pharma?"

RPF- Welcome to the forum EpiRx! The two areas that are most ’natural’ for epidemiologists (or those with MPH degrees or similar) are health economics & outcomes research (HEOR) and pharmacovigilance (PV).\r\n\r\nHEOR is responsible for real world evidence generation (observational studies) in support of product value propositions - this can include everything from disease state studies, studies of burden of disease, real world effectiveness or utilization studies, etc. Most commonly teams use a mix of administrative claims data, EHR data, and registries to do these studies. In addition to the outcomes research piece in health economics which mostly centers around cost effectiveness and budget impact modeling.\r\n\r\nPV monitors safety of products (both investigational and those on market) in line with regulatory requirements. This includes database studies on adverse events associated with products."
