How easy is it to change functional areas in pharma?

apples- It is hard to commit to one functional area before having worked in it and I am wondering how common it is to switch between areas? Also are there certain functions that it is easier to move between? Thanks!"

RPF- Hi apples, welcome to the forum! I would say generally there is opportunity to switch functional areas assuming you meet the basic competency or education requirements of the new function. You will find that most people in pharma have moved between areas over time. To your second question, moving within the same broader category (eg medical to medical, commercial to commercial, R&D to R&D, etc.) is generally easier that making the jump from say medical to commercial, although there are still a fair number of people who have done the latter as well."

apples- Thanks for the response! I will be starting a fellowship this summer and still not completely sure what to expect or if I picked the right function. I think I picked the right one but hard to be sure.."
