How to prepare for a market access fellowship

JakeRx- I am planning to apply to market access fellowships this year and curious what I can do to prepare for them. I will have a couple of industry APPEs but not in market access and I am not sure what I can do to help make my application stand out"

RPF- Welcome to Rxference Jake! Market access is definitely a harder area to get experience in prior to joining the industry, so I would not sweat it too much as most candidates will likely be in a similar position as you. That being said, it is great that you have 2 APPEs - you will likely be able to get some MAx exposure through those experiences - try to set up 1 to 1s with access folks (ask your preceptor for intros or contact info) and learn as much as you can from them. \r\n\r\nOn a broader level, read up on the ongoing drug pricing debates and conversations as they will give you some insight on hot topics especially around pricing. Specifically, I suggest reading up on topics like rebates, gross-to-net, how patient OOP cost is determined (often based on list despite heavy rebates in some TAs), etc. Rxference is a great place to get primers on a lot of these topics; you may also want to check out Adam Fein at drugchannels.net who has a great blog on these issues. Some great follows on Twitter as well. If you have more specific questions on market access don’t hesitate to ask here either!
